1. TICKETS & TRAVEL TIMES

For those you of travelling on the full package (land and air), most of you will be picking up your tickets from the World of Vacations counter at your departure destination. Please arrive at the WORLD OF VACATIONS/AIR TRANSAT counter at the airport at least two hours prior to departure (see departure details below).

All flights on the package are being handled by Air Transat. We have been advised that it is a good idea to have some food before you board the plane -- as the service on flight is not always great. I would suggest you bring some snacks, just in case! It is also a good idea to confirm departure times (as they are often subject to change) a day before your departure. You can contact Air Transat at 1.877.TRANSAT (872-6728). All you need is your flight number, but I have also added the booking numbers below.

For those of you travelling on a land-only package, your vouchers will be sent to you by Marina. Should you have any questions or concerns about your tickets, please e-mail or call Marina directly at Email: marinasol@bellnet.ca or Telephone: (416) 536-7686.

The flight times are subject to change (as noted again on the new return time for Toronto flights). Please call AIR TRANSAT a day before departure to make sure there is no change. When we are at the resort there is an agent that we will confirm with to make sure our return flight is the same.

More time in the sun for the Toronto crew!! The return flight has changed back to:

2. WHAT TO PACK?

Each person is allowed two pieces of luggage up to a maximum of 20 kilograms.
Most of you have your own routine and know what you want to bring.
But for those of you who have asked, here is our suggested list of what to pack:

  • Some spending money (preferably in small US bills)
  • Bathing attire (Patrycja suggests at least two to choose from)
  • Sarong or casual beach pants/shorts/shirts
  • For men: one pair for long pants (needed for some of the restaurants)
  • Beach shoes (some guests have recommended water shoes - for those of you with sensitive feet, there are some rocks in the water)
  • Hats - some of you might also want to bring parasols or summer umbrellas
  • Sun Block/Sunscreen
  • Mosquito repellent (just in case there are some bugs in the evening)
  • Camera
  • Lots of film!!

Remember that you can purchase everything at the resort (there is actually a mall right on the premises).
So if you forget anything at all, don't dismay!

3. WHAT SHOULD I WEAR

You will need beach clothes, clothes for the evenings, and clothes for the wedding. This trip can be as casual as you like, though anyone planning to take advantage of the 'a la carte' restaurants or evening events should bring suitable clothing (which would likely be pants and shirts with a collar for men, perhaps with closed toe shoes). For the wedding, it is important to remember that it will be hot: we will be getting married outside in the late afternoon. Because of this, most men will not be comfortable in suits and we recommend something lighter and cooler. Don't feel the need to wear a tie- Joshua won't be wearing one! We want everyone to look nice and be comfortable, but please don't fret over any details. Bring a comfortable outfit that you will feel happy in! If you need an excuse to buy something new… go for it!! Just have fun!!

4. SHOULD I BRING CASH?

It would be a good idea to bring some US dollars. Though all meals and drinks at the resort are included, most of us will spend a little on souvenirs or off-site activities. Traveler's cheques will carry a hefty charge, so US cash and plastic is probably a better way to go (though riskier!).

5. HEALTH ISSUES

As we are traveling to a foreign country, getting travel health insurance is recommended. Most banks and insurance companies offer varying types of coverage, and many people will have some as part of their benefit plan at work. Travel health insurance is generally not very expensive, largely because it is rarely necessary to seek medical attention on trips like this. Though we are going to a nice resort, Mexico is a less developed country and Mexican bacteria is different from our own, so some people might have some health issues. Our consular affairs office has prepared this nice report, which includes health information: Mexico Travel Report

6. OUR THOUGHTS ABOUT WEDDING GIFTS…

We wanted to add a special section to share with you our thoughts on 'wedding gifts'. Many of you have asked us what we would like to receive in honour of our wedding, and we cannot thank you enough for wanting to contribute materially to our new life together. However, we have not been able to respond in a way that truly captures what we feel about this… we've tried to be difficult by not registering, but you are all still too generous!!

This is a detail that has given us pause, and forced us to reflect upon why we feel so adamant to deter our family and friends from showering us with gifts. Truly, we feel that our lives have been blessed with so much abundance -- we have been born (and are both marrying into) incredible and supportive families who offer us the foundation to build a life filled with love, and we share remarkable friends that bring joy and laughter into our every day. We have been blessed with health, happiness, stability, passion, and an appreciation for each gift that life has bestowed upon us. Your friendship, your support, each time you felt our tears or shared a smile: Your being witness to our realities and our dreams… each one of you has given us countless gifts.

As we embark on our life together, we want to do this basking in these treasures. On our wedding day, and everyday, we want to celebrate life in love and in joy, and we ask you to share in this adventure with us - supporting us on our journey and building yours. This is what we want to celebrate, and these are the gifts we ask of you. So, in case you were thinking that our request for 'no gifts' was simple, what we are really saying is: We still want lots of gifts, but not the kind one wraps in pretty ribbons.
There is one thing that we would ask all of you attending to help us out with… our photo memories. This truly would be a much appreciate gift…

7. PICTURES TO TREASURE THE MEMORIES

As most of you know, Patrycja loves to take pictures, look at pictures, and create scrapbooks. Since she will not be able to capture everything and everyone, we have a very special request for all of you. We ask that when you develop your pictures, please make doubles and send a copy to us (Joshua & Patrycja will happily reimburse your costs). We would like to take the photos from everyone and combine them into a book of shared memories from the entire week.
As for the actual wedding ceremony…
One of our friends, Meiling Chung, will be the official wedding photographer. She will be taking picture only of the ceremony. And during this time we ask that all of you please be thoughtful and try to avoid getting in her way as she tries to capture all of the special moments of that brief half-hour. You are all more than welcome to take pictures throughout the ceremony (and especially afterwards). Just be aware that Meiling will be working and we ask that she is the only one that would move around during the actual ceremony. For the rest of you, you can actually just enjoy this moment and be witness to our wedding vows… as we will be asking each one of you to offer your willingness to support us on this journey we are about to embark!

If you have any questions about pictures either during the ceremony or throughout the week… please let us know.

8. Tentative Itinerary for the Week
Joshua & Patrycja will likely be staying at the hotel for most of the week. We have purposely decided to make this week very flexible and offer each one of you a lot of freedom to do what you’d like. You can simply relax at the resort, or go out and explore the surrounding area. Overall, we expect that our days will be filled with time spent relaxing on the beach or partaking in any of the multiple sports activities offered at the hotel (or for some of you taking trips to explore the ruins or neighbouring towns). Our nights can be enjoyed in any of the bars, on the beach, at the discotheque, or relaxing in our rooms.
Our tentative plans for the week in Mexico:

  • Saturday April 24th
    • Evening: Arrive at Kantenah (with group from
  • Sunday April 25th
    • All day: Play on the beach, eat, sleep, drink and be merry!
    • Evening: Arrange a meeting place for all of the guests to gather and enjoy a few moments to get to know who’s who (exact time and location to be announced upon arrival)
  • Monday April 26th
    • Morning: Joshua & Patrycja go into Cancun
    • Afternoon: Hopefully back to enjoy more sun by the ocean!
  • Tuesday April 27th
    • Play on the beach, eat, sleep, drink and be merry!
  • Wednesday April 28th
    • Play on the beach, eat, sleep, drink and be merry!
    • Evening: quiet dinner with parents
  • Thursday April 29th
    • THE WEDDING DAY!!
    • Wedding Day Itinerary (tentative):
    • The ceremony will begin at 4pm. It will be outdoors (venue is still a surprise) and last for about 20-30 minutes.
After the ceremony, time has been set-aside for some group shots. We will begin with one photo of EVERYONE. Then we will take a few pictures with immediate family. And then Joshua & Patrycja will have some photos of just the two of us. One of our friends will be directing traffic, but after the group shot of everyone is finished, you are all free to go to the reception where the dinner will be held or you can go back to your rooms for a bit. The dinner reception will begin at 6pm (time will be confirmed after the ceremony, so you will all be well-informed). At the dinner reception everyone will have an opportunity to say a few words (pre-written or spontaneous). songs, skits, creative dance interpretations are all welcome!! We ask that you all try to with-hold yourselves from clanking glasses to see us kiss (even though Joshua does enjoy this custom). Instead, we invite you to share a story, sing a song, do a dance. anything you like. and for that, we will kiss!!!
    • Following the dinner reception we will all be invited to go to the join us at the bar/lounge near the pool where there will be a live band. This is where Joshua & I will do our first dance (we are still accepting suggestions for a song). At this time, there will also be a special treat for all of you in memory of Patrycja's father. The band plays until 10, and we can stay there as long as we want. The rest of the evening is pretty flexible. but we were thinking perhaps we would either go to the discotheque, or bring out the guitars and stereo and take the party on to the beach to dance the night away under the stars!! We will see how it all evolves.
  • Saturday May 1st
    • Say farewell to guests from Toronto
  • Sunday May 2nd
    • Say farewell to guests from Vancouver, and a few other places
  • Monday May 3rd - Saturday May 8th
    • HONEYMOON!!!

9. Speeches and conversations…

Several of you have approached us to ask about whether we will be having any speeches at our wedding reception. The easy answer is: absolutely yes (Patrycja loves this stuff)! That said: we want everyone who would like to say something at the wedding to feel TOTALLY comfortable to do so. Like everything else, we hope to make this a fun and informal process for each one of us. And we certainly do not have any thoughts about what order people should speak or who needs to speak. So, if you'd like to share a few words, you will definitely have an opportunity to do so at the reception following the ceremony. You do not need to let us know in advance. You can be as spontaneous (e.g. just get up and sing a song or share a story if you're so inspired), or as pre-planned (e.g. choose a poem or reading, or write something in advance), as you feel comfortable. We are looking forward to hearing from all of you... but whether this happens at the reception or at any other point during the week in Mexico or another time... that is up to you!
